Meatloaf Story

Black and Taupe Squiggles

When I cook, I follow the recipe and usually NEVER deviate. One thing I am not good at is cooking meat so when the recipe says a certain amount, I follow it exactly.

Yesterday I went to Fresh Market. There was no one at the meat counter, which is very rare, but I took a number anyway. I had 43 and the lighted number was 37. The butcher saw me and said 38?  I replied No, 39?  No.  40? No. 41? No. 42? No. 43? That's me! He gave me a funny look and asked me what I needed. I told him I would like 2 pounds of ground chuck. The scale showed a little over so I asked if he could please make it exactly 2 pounds. I told him the recipe says 2 pounds and I follow the recipe. He looked at me and removed some of the meat, now, the scale was exactly two pounds, then he held it up and said Lady do you really think this little bit (and I have to admit it was a little bit) would make a difference? We just looked at each other.  He asked if there was anything else I needed (I'm sure he was hoping I would say no.)

When I got home and told my husband he asked me why I just didn't tell him my number which I replied he didn't ask.

My Mom's Meatloaf Recipe is on the Lifestyle page under recipes. It really is an easy and delicious recipe. Enjoy.
